Middle School Curriculum: Keepin' It REAL

Research shows that adolescents benefit most from learning about drug use and its dangers.   Curriculum developers have shifted the focus in the new D.A.R.E. curriculum from officer-facilitated work and discussion groups to providing students with the skills and information needed to make good life choices.

Within the Keepin' It REAL or “kiR”, curriculum, the acronym REAL is its central message, providing students with skills to employ in refusing offers to use drugs and engage in other high-risk behaviors -- Refuse, Explain, Avoid, and Leave.

High School Education

D.A.R.E. Instructors teach a two week program at Brentwood and Ravenwood High Schools highlighting the dangers and consequences of drug use.  The officers use “Fatal Vision Goggles” to allow students to experience visual impairment.
