Volunteer
Please be specific in times and days of availability for volunteer work.
Applications are evaluated in the order of receipt.
The Volunteer Program supports the Library’s mission of being a vibrant and engaging community center. The Library is grateful for its team of Adult, Teen, and Intern volunteers who generously give their time.
The Library’s goal for Teen volunteers is to provide a nurturing, welcoming environment that helps youth develop employability skills, a commitment to service, and positive character traits such as initiative and responsibility. Teens practice thoroughness, punctuality, professionalism, and integrity by completing an online application, interviewing, job training, and communicating with the Volunteer Coordinator.
Please note: Volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years old. Due to the time it takes to effectively train a volunteer library policy states that you commit one hour per week for at least three consecutive months.
Explore Volunteer Roles
Do you have a passion for clean spaces? Volunteers on the Clean Team work throughout the public areas of the library to ensure that shelves, displays, and library materials are neat and orderly. Duties include dusting, wiping shelves and surfaces as needed, and general tidying up.
Time commitment: One 1-hour scheduled shift per week for 3+ months.
Do you love to search the library’s shelves for books and media? Holds Hunter volunteers search the shelves for a list of specific items, collect those items on a cart, and deliver the cart to Circulation staff members.
Time commitment: One 1-hour scheduled shift per week for 3+ months.
Do you want to volunteer occasionally, but you don't want to make a long-term volunteer commitment? No problem! The library often needs a helping hand at special events like the chess tournament, teen programs, children's events, the Easter egg hunt, morning with Santa, and more! If you'd like us to get in touch with you when help is needed for special events, choose this option.
If you have a high attention to detail, we'd love your help! We’ll teach you exactly how everything in a library section should be shelved; you make sure the materials on the shelves are in perfect order. This volunteer position requires concentration and critical thinking skills.
Time commitment: One 1-hour shift per week for 3+ months.
Have you ever wondered which library books are most popular? Do you like to know what’s new and interesting or older and classic? Shelve recently returned books and find out! Volunteers in Circulation (Adult and Teen sections) and in the Children’s Department assist library staff in efficiently and accurately shelving all sorts of books and library materials. Please note that this work can be quite physical.
Time commitment: One 1-hour or one 2-hour scheduled shift per week for 3+ months.
The Library offers unpaid internships for college undergraduates and graduate students. Internships are a collaboration among the Library, the student, and the educational institution. The intern completes a short-term project while being mentored and guided by library staff. Available internships vary each term.
Time commitment: Varies by project but is generally 10-15 hours per week. All interested students should begin by submitting an online application.
