The Environmental Advisory Board coordinates the installation of curb markers to indicate to residents that storm drains drain to the river.  Nothing should ever be dumped in storm drains.

This marker program, conducted entirely by volunteers, is designed as both a reminder to residents to never dump anything in the drains, and to instill a sense of environmental stewardship in those community members who volunteer to install the markers.  This can be done by individuals, Homeowners' Associations, Scouts, service clubs, churches, or any other organization looking for a good environmental project.  Funding for the purchase of the markers and supplies is entirely up those doing the installation.

Curb Markers

Markers can be purchased from Almatek Industries at https://almetek.com/product/aluminum-storm-drain-markers/..  The specifications are: Drains to River, Blue, Fish symbol, NO center hole, and no engraved numbering (the image above shows the numbers added, though that is not our specification).  A box of 20 markers is approximately $133.60.  You will also need general purpose construction adhesive and a caulk gun to apply it.  A small bead of adhesive should go near (but not at) the edge of the underside of the marker, and then affix it to the curb with the words facing the road.  Don't apply so much adhesive that it comes out the sides of the marker.

Contact Assistant City Manager Jay Evans for instructions on where to install the markers.  We target neighborhoods closest to the Little Harpeth River and we track the installations with our GIS system.
