Welcome to Cache in on Brentwood History brought you by the Brentwood Historic Commission. We hope you enjoy the series!
All you need is a GPS or GPS Enabled smart phone, pencil & trinket. You can download a GPS app on your smartphone or tablet such as “Free GPS”. A pencil will come in handy as you gather information to determine the combination for the lock on the caches. Take a trinket to swap with one you take from the cache.
1. Download a free Official “Brentwood “ Passport by clicking the Passport Link .This passport is your proof you found each cache.
- To get coordinates and other information for the Cache in on Brentwood History geocaches:
A. Register for a FREE basic membership at www.geocaching.com/play This site also contains tutorials to help get you started Geocaching.
- Log onto www.geocaching.com/play and click filter and search for the caches in this series by the geocaching codes (GCXXXXX) found on the passport.
- NOTE: The Geocaching.com mobile app does not allow you to view multicaches that are a large portion of the Cache in on Brentwood History Tour without a paid subscription. They can be viewed at Geocaching.com for FREE on any computer but not thru the Geocaching.com mobile App.
B. If you are not interested in joining www.geocaching.com/play you can also find the geocache descriptions and beginning coordinates on this document.
- Choose any geocache from the list and click on it’s name to get started. They may be done in any order.
- Enter the Coordinates of the geocache into your GPS device. Follow each site’s instruction to find and open the caches.
- Sometimes the information you need will be on a Brentwood Historic Sign and at other times it will be in the Geocache description History.
- Master Locks:Once the code for the combination lock is dialed in, push the lock shank into the base and the lock should pop open.To close the lock, the code still has to be dialed in. Push the shank into the base and then mix the numbers to relock.
- Once the cache is found and opened
- Sign and date the log book inside
- Record the Secret Code found inside on the cache container lid in your passport.
- Trade trinkets of equal or greater value.DO NOT leave candy or food.
- Once you are finished with the cache
- Replace the log back in the cache
- Lock the cache
- Put the cache back exactly where it was hidden.
- Log your finds at www.geocaching.comunder the geocache description if you are using the geocaching.com free membership
- Now on to the next site and do it all over again.
- After completing all the locations bring your completed passport to The Brentwood Library at 8109 Concord Road during regular business hours. For completing the series, you will receive a souvenir PathTag while supplies last. Only one coin per participant per completed passport.
Please be respectful at each cache location. All participants must understand that geocaching and other outdoor activities involve risk to both persons and property. In no way shall the City of Brentwood and Historic Commission be liable for any direct, indirect, punitive or consequential damages arising out of, or in any way connected with participation in the Geocaching series. The Brentwood Historic Commission reserves the right to end this program at any time.
