Brentwood Looking for Input on Town Center

Two work sessions will help develop ideas

Post Date:11/15/2013

2020UpdateLogoSmallBrentwood residents are invited to two 2020 Update work sessions to be held on Thursday November 21, 2013 at the Brentwood Library.  The sessions are designed to be interactive and solicit input from those interested.

The first session, beginning at 1:00 p.m., will encourage participation in identifying alternative concepts for what should or should not be considered as part of a “Town Center” in Brentwood.  The various concepts generated during the afternoon will be presented at the evening session to facilitate feedback from the community.  The afternoon session is designed to be more of an informal working session and allow interested participants to come and go as their schedule permits.  This session will end at approximately 4:00 p.m.

The City’s consultant will use unique state-of-the-art tools featuring an interactive “3D Digital Design Charrette,” which will allow participants to verbalize design concepts for the town center area then watch them take shape on a large screen.  Ideas will be solicited for building heights, setbacks, buffers, streetscapes and new or expanded streets.

At the 6:00 p.m. meeting, residents will learn what is possible in the Town Center today under current regulations as well as review what ideas were discussed during the afternoon session.  We will also explore the importance of compatibility of uses with the surrounding area and residential use transitions.

The outcome from these listening sessions will help craft questions for the community-wide survey and begin to help find answers to such questions as:

  1. Should Brentwood have a town center area?
  2. If so, what kind of a town center area and where?

This is the first step in the process to help identify how the town center zoning district could be adjusted to meet community needs.  All those interested are strongly encouraged to attend.
