HOLIDAY LUMINARY SAFETY

Keep your family safe and your Luminaries glowing this holiday season!

The Brentwood Fire & Rescue Department is working hard to prepare its citizens for a safe and happy holiday season. Due to the increase in fire danger, we would like to remind all citizens of these safety tips while celebrating with luminaries.

1. Do not use candle luminaries during high winds.
2. Place the luminary on a nonflammable surface, such as pavement away from combustible materials.
3. Do not let children or pets play around luminaries.
4. At the end of the night, make sure every single luminary candle is extinguished. After several hours, a candle (especially a tea light) may be burning low enough that the bag no longer glows. The candle appears to be extinguished when in reality it is not.
5. As an alternative, use a glow stick or LED candle instead of real candles.

We encourage you to shop around for the best price. Local warehouse stores offer inexpensive LED candles. A host of Internet retailers also offer great deals on LED tea lights for as little as $0.60 each that last up to 60 hours!
