Emergency Alert System to Conduct Test Nov 9, 2011

Post Date:11/08/2011 3:30 PM

On Wednesday, November 9th at 1 p.m., the federal government will conduct the first ever nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The test will occur simultaneously on all radio and broadcast television systems and will last approximately 30 seconds. The purpose of the test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS as a way to alert the public of national emergencies.

The Brentwood Police Department would like to make residents aware that tomorrow’s test is a scheduled event and not an actual emergency. During tomorrow’s test, listeners will hear an audio message indicating that a test is being conducted. The audio message will be the same on both radio and television; however, the text message scrolling on TV screens will not indicate that it is a test.
