Brentwood Veterans Receive "Quilt of Valor"

The Cumberland area "Quilts of Valor" organization donated four handmade quilts to veterans at the regular City Commission meeting at Brentwood City Hall on November 12, 2018.   Pat McCann said, "we take great pride in presenting quilts."  The group presents about 100 quilts a year.

 Among the recipients this year were Deputy Chief David Windrow, Officer Steven Pepin, Jim Redd, and Wanda Graham.   Biographies are included below:

enant Colonel Wanda Bruce Graham, U.S. Army (Retired)

Wanda Bruce Graham is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, born in Paris, Tennessee.  Graham enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1979 as a military policewoman, entered active duty in 1982 and was assigned to St. Louis, MO where she met and married Bill Graham during this tour of duty.  She has had assignments at Fort Benning, Georgia, Germany, Alexandria, Virginia, and at the Pentagon.  At the time of her retirement, she held a Top-Secret security clearance. 

During her military career she earned numerous medals and has been recognized several times by her hometown for she and her husband’s generous contributions to numerous churches and charitable efforts.   She has served as a guest speaker at a variety of community and church events, is a life member of Alpha Phi International Fraternity, and you’ll often see her volunteering on election day at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library. 

Graham is devoted to our library, having served as President of the Friends of the Brentwood Library Board since June 2016 and previously as Vice-President.  She is also involved with the Williamson County Democratic Party and is also a dedicated volunteer at the state level being appointed to several boards over the years by Governor Bill Haslam.

Graham is a devoted member and faithful volunteer at Bethel World Outreach Church.  Graham holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Secretarial Science/Business Administration from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville and a Master of Science in Management from Troy State University in Alabama.

Graham is married to retired Marine Corps Master Sergeant and retired Department of Navy civilian, William “Bill” D. Graham.  Since their retirements in 2003, they have called Brentwood home.  Graham has also graduated from both the Brentwood Fire and Police Citizen Academy programs.

All of time overseas would be considered war time deployments

Steven has received several commendations for his time overseas but none of them were for direct combat action

 

Jim Redd

Born in 1929 and a native resident of southern Davidson County, Jim Redd married Frances Cothran in 1955.  They have been married 63 years amd have two daughters and one son.

He graduated from the former Central High School in 1949.  (A noted member of that class was Vince Little, former Brentwood historian.)  Jim was named to the “All City” baseball team his senior year.  After high school, during the Korean War, he served four years in the Air Force in the OSI (Office of Special Investigations).  After his military service, he returned to Middle Tennessee State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Business Administration. He started his business, Air Conditioning Service, Inc. in 1959 and after 59 years and approaching age 90, he is still active in his business.   

 

Chief David Windrow

Chief Windrow joined the Air Force in 1983. He rose through the ranks to the highest enlisted level of leadership and retired as Chief Master Sergeant. Only roughly one percent of enlisted Air Force may hold the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.

Chief Windrow came to Brentwood in 1996 as the Training and Safety Officer. He had previously served as a Battalion Chief in the Department of Public Safety at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. He is currently the Deputy Chief of Brentwood Fire and Rescue.

In 2016 he was appointed by Governor Bill Haslam to serve on the Tennessee Firefighting Personnel Standards and Education Commission. The commission is responsible for the certification of volunteer and paid firefighters in Tennessee.

Chief Windrow holds a Master of Public Administration and a BS in Emergency Administration and Disaster Planning from the University of North Texas. He also has an Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Protection Technology. Chief Windrow has also obtained his Executive Fire Officer designation through the National Fire Academy, and in 2010, earned his Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation through the Commission on Professional Credentialing at the Center for Public Safety Excellence.  

Windrow is married to Tracey Windrow and they live in College Grove.
