For the 25th consecutive year, the City of Brentwood’s Finance Department has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award presented by the Government Finance Officers Association for the Fiscal Year beginning July 1, 2016 budget. This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting.
The award represents a significant achievement by the City Finance Department and the City Manager’s office, who both put a tremendous amount of work into the preparation of the annual operating budget along with the six-year Capital Improvements Program. In order to have received the award, Brentwood published a budget document that met minimum program criteria, an operations guide, a financial plan, and included an effective communication medium to the public.
A Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation was presented to Karen Harper, who has served as the Interim Finance Director for the past year. This presentation was made to Harper and the entire finance department at the Monday February 27th City Commission Meeting at 7pm at City Hall.
Mayor Regina Smithson said, “I'm so proud of Karen. I really believe everybody at the City recognizes the great job she has done this year. She has carried quite the load and deserves all the recognition we can give her. The City is very fortunate to have Karen and I am certainly glad Richard Parker is on board now too.”
For budgets beginning in 2015, 1,565 participants received the Award. The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of nearly 19,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners . The GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
