Historic Commission Lecture Event at Ravenswood

BRENTWOOD HISTORIC COMMISSION LECTURE EVENT AT RAVENSWOOD MANSION

Brentwood, TN:  October 23, 2015 – Brentwood Historic Commission invites you to Ravenswood Mansion in Marcella Vivrette Smith Park on Sunday, November8th from 1:00pm to 4:30pm for a series of lectures, dessert and tea.  Ashley McAnulty of the Brentwood Historic Commission has gathered experts to discuss a variety of interesting topics. 


Tony Guzzi, Vice President of Preservation and Site Operations of Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage will discuss preservation efforts at the Hermitage.  He will demonstrate the varied architectural styles and preservation efforts of this important national landmark.


Learn about early American silver.  After years of study with major New York auction houses Christies and Sotheby’s, Brunk Auction Representative Sara Sperling, and Silver Specialist Robin Rice give an overview of American silver for ornament or use with examples and recommended care for your own silver collection. Learn to decipher the differences between American Coin Silver and English Sterling standards with examples from local collections.

 

Dr. Judy Bullington, Professor of Art History and Chair of the Department of Art at Belmont University will discuss Historic Gardens: Early Gardens in 19th Century America and American Art. Learn the historic layout, design and preservation of historic gardens with an emphasis on American garden design in art in the early republic.
