Flooding and Your Safety

Tips for safely enduring our current weather situation

Post Date:05/02/2010

Based on some of the situations encountered by Fire & Rescue personnel in the last 24 hours, we highly encourage residents to follow this advice, for your safety and for ours:

  • DO NOT attempt to drive through water that is over the roadway.
  • DO NOT attempt to swim/kayak/tube/boat or otherwise enter the floodwaters.  In addition to an extremely high risk of drowning, it is also highly unsanitary and presents health risks.
  • Flammable liquids containers (gas cans, etc.) should be stored in areas where they will not be in danger of floating and overturning, which presents an imminent fire danger.
  • If you choose to evacuate your home due to flooding, ensure that gas and electric utilities have been turned off.
